Meet Rasha

Rasha had been in the wedding industry for over a decade and had worked several hundred events before Rasha Design House existed. She knew the venues, she knew which florists could hold a delivery window, and she knew the sound a ballroom makes at 5.45pm when the doors are about to open and one thing is still missing.

Then 2021 happened. A punishing work schedule, a busy family and a global pandemic arrived at once, and she stopped. Not to retire. To rebuild the job into something she actually wanted to do. Rasha Design House came out of that pause, and within a short time it had become one of the studios Houston couples call first.

The name is deliberate. Design house, not agency, not coordination service. What we sell is a point of view about how a room should feel, backed by the operational work that gets it built.

The background behind the work

Rasha graduated with high honors from Rutgers University, specialising in design and marketing. That combination is unusual for a planner and it is the reason the studio works the way it does.

Design is the obvious half. It is why we start with the whole visual direction rather than approving twelve unrelated decisions across nine months, and why the tablescapes hold up in photographs taken from four feet away. The watercolour napkins with wax seal place cards at Sandlewood Manor were not an accident of good luck. Neither was the emerald green cake standing against a Cypress treeline, or the book wall seating chart at The Bell Tower.

Marketing is the half people do not expect. It is why we think about a room as an experience a guest walks into cold, with no context and no programme, and how quickly they understand where to go and what is happening. It is also why our consulting clients are venues and restaurants. Rasha understands the business side of hospitality from the inside, and that shows up in your event as well: we know what a venue can flex on, what a caterer’s margin looks like, and where a quote has room in it.

Houston, by way of everywhere else

Rasha has lived in several countries and now calls Houston, Texas home. That is on the About page of a lot of websites and usually means nothing. Here it is load-bearing.

Houston is one of the most internationally mixed cities in the United States, and our portfolio reflects it honestly. We have designed a Vietnamese couple’s first dance under sparklers at The Bougainvilleas Event Venue. A South Asian bride and a Korean groom marrying by the water in Corpus Christi, surrounded by fire red and magenta florals. A Chinese bride and a Spanish groom at The Bell Tower in Houston. Multicultural wedding parties on custom dance floors in Tomball.

Fusion weddings are the hardest work in this industry and the most rewarding. Two families, two sets of expectations, two grandmothers with strong opinions, and one day that has to honour both without feeling like two separate parties bolted together. Getting that right takes research and it takes asking questions that a planner who has only worked one kind of wedding does not know to ask. We do that work before the design begins, not during the rehearsal.

How we work

We are small on purpose. Rasha takes a limited number of events each year, and the person who sits with you at the first consultation is the person running your day. There is no handover to a junior coordinator four weeks out.

A few things we hold to:

We tell you the truth about money

If the design you want and the budget you have are not going to meet, you will hear it in the first month, when there is still time to change one or the other. Nobody is served by finding that out in the final quarter.

We hold the vendor relationships

Houston is a small industry and reputation moves fast in it. We work with photographers, florists, caterers and venues we have stood beside before. That is worth real money to you at the point where something needs to be fixed quickly and quietly.

We are the ones being called on the day

Vendors report to us. Questions come to us. The couple, or the host, or the CEO, gets to attend their own event.

We relish the small things

. The napkin fold, the wax seal, the transition from the ceremony chairs to the reception, the ten minutes nobody plans for while the room is flipped. Those are the details that decide whether a beautiful event also feels good to be inside.

The Houston industry, from the inside

Houston looks like a huge market and behaves like a small one. The venues, photographers, florists and caterers doing the work at this level all know each other, and most of them have stood in the same loading bay at 2pm on a Saturday.

That matters to you in ways that are easy to miss when you are comparing quotes. A planner who is known and liked gets a florist to take a Sunday delivery. She gets told quietly that a venue has changed its outside vendor policy before it appears in a contract. She gets the honest answer about which caterer is struggling with staffing this year, which is not something anyone puts in writing.

It also cuts the other way, and this is the part worth saying out loud. A planner who burns vendors gets a reputation quickly, and the couple pays for it without ever knowing why the quotes came back high or the good photographer was suddenly unavailable. We have spent a decade being careful about this. It is the least visible part of what you are buying and one of the most useful.

The photographers whose work fills our gallery, including Ammar Selo Photography, Jessica Frey Photography, The Silhouette Studio and JF Studioz, have all worked beside us on real weddings. They see more planners in a year than any couple will in a lifetime. If you want a second opinion about us, ask one of them.

Beyond the events

Rasha is an award winning professional and sits on a nonprofit board. She works as an advocate for women’s empowerment, which is a genuine part of how she spends her week rather than a line on a website.

When she is not the architect of somebody else’s day, she is at home with three energetic boys, or travelling and looking for whatever is coming next in design. A lot of what turns up in our work started as something she saw somewhere else and thought about for six months.

Rasha Design House is listed among the best wedding planners in Houston by H-Town Best.

Common questions

Who will actually plan my wedding?

Rasha. She leads every engagement personally, from the first consultation through to the last vendor leaving on the night. For larger events she brings in a production team she has worked with before, but you are not handed off to someone new partway through.

A limited number, deliberately. We would rather turn away work than take on more than we can give proper attention to. This is also why booking early matters, particularly for spring and autumn dates in Houston.

Both, and they are not the same skill. Design decides what the day looks and feels like. Planning is the logistics, the contracts, the timeline and the crisis management that make the design actually happen. Rasha Design House does both under one roof, which is the reason the studio is called a design house.

Corporate events including fundraisers, holiday parties and team building days. Social events including birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, baby showers, quinceaneras, galas and private parties. There is also a referral-only marketing and consulting service for venues and restaurants.
