Love notes

From Vicki and Steven

“First i would like to give Rasha 10 stars for being a life saver, due to the pandemic we were forced to shrink our wedding ceremony. Rasha was patient, understanding and very helpful she made sure everything was perfect.”

That wedding was during the pandemic, when a lot of couples were being told to postpone and a lot of planners were quietly stepping back from the work. Shrinking a wedding is harder than planning one. Contracts have to be renegotiated, guest lists cut by people who did not want to cut them, and a design built for one room has to work in a much smaller one. It is not the kind of job anyone puts in a portfolio, and it is the kind of job that tells you most about who you have hired.

Where else you can find us

Rasha Design House is listed among the best wedding planners in Houston by H-Town Best, an independent local guide that publishes its own shortlists.

You will also find our work through the photographers who have shot it. Ammar Selo Photography, Ama by Aisha Photography, Jessica Frey Photography, The Silhouette Studio, Shaimaa Eissa Photography, Sonia Alexandria Photography, JF Studioz, Adrianne Michelle Photo, Ulises Reyes and Oryan Photography have all worked alongside us on weddings in our portfolio. Photographers see more planners in a year than any couple ever will. If you are checking us out, ask one of them.

Day to day, the most current picture of what we are working on is on Instagram at @rashadesignhouse, with more on Facebook and LinkedIn.

What clients tell us matters most

After a few hundred events, the things people say afterwards fall into a fairly short list. It is rarely the florals, even when the florals were the most expensive thing in the room.

They got to attend their own wedding

This comes up more than anything else. Not that the day went perfectly, because no day does, but that they did not find out about the problems until later, if at all.

Somebody handled the families

Weddings involve people who love you and have opinions. A planner is a useful person to route those opinions through, and an even more useful person to blame for a decision that has already been made.

The budget did not surprise them

No mid-year discovery that the number was never going to work. This is the one we push hardest on at the start, because the honest conversation in month one is much cheaper than the honest conversation in month nine.

The design held together

A room that looked decided rather than assembled.

Why this page is short

Most planner websites carry a wall of testimonials. Ours carries one, and there is a reason worth explaining.

We publish what clients actually wrote and gave us permission to publish. That is the entire rule. Rasha Design House launched in 2021 and a good share of the couples from the early years married during a period nobody wanted to write about afterwards. Others simply were not asked at the right moment, which is a failure on our side rather than theirs.

Since 2024, writing or publishing a review that a customer did not write has carried civil penalties in the United States under the Federal Trade Commission’s rule on consumer reviews and testimonials. Plenty of businesses were doing it long before that was illegal, and a short honest page is worth more than a long invented one.

If you want more than one voice before you commit, there are better sources than a page we control. Ask us for a couple to speak to whose wedding was similar to yours, and we will connect you. Ask one of the photographers listed above. Or go to Google and the wedding directories, where the reviews are published by the people who wrote them and we cannot edit a word.

The events behind the notes

The weddings in our portfolio are real and named, which is a form of proof in itself. A country chic reception at The Weinberg at Wixon Valley in Bryan, with a monogrammed dance floor and a fireworks exit. A pastel floral bridge over farm tables at Sandlewood Manor in Tomball. A black and white reception with a geometric floor at Sans Souci Ballroom. A Vietnamese couple’s first dance under sparklers at The Bougainvilleas in Houston. A South Asian and Korean fusion ceremony by the water in Corpus Christi. A Chinese bride and a Spanish groom at The Bell Tower.

Named venues, named photographers, real dates. Any one of those businesses can be called and asked whether we were there and what we were like to work with. That is a harder standard than a testimonial and we would rather be judged on it.

What to ask any Houston wedding planner before you sign

Reviews are worth reading and they are not enough on their own. Every planner’s website shows their happiest clients. Here is what we would ask if we were hiring us, and what we think you should ask everyone on your shortlist.

How many weddings do you take a year, and how many on my weekend?

Not who is on the team. Who is standing in the room at 5.45pm. At some studios the person selling you the service is not the person running the wedding, and you should know that before you sign, not four weeks out.

More than one wedding on a date means somebody’s wedding is being run by an associate.

This is where two quotes that look similar stop being similar.

Ask directly. The answer changes what a recommendation is worth. Ours is no.

Any planner working outdoor venues in Houston should have an immediate, specific answer, including who makes the call and when.

A planner who is comfortable with their work will connect you. If your wedding is multicultural, ask specifically for a couple whose wedding was too.

If you have worked with us

We would rather have your honest review than a polished one, and we would rather have it somewhere public than in an email.

The most useful places are Google, Facebook and the wedding directories, because those are where the next couple is already looking. If you would prefer to write to Rasha directly, that is welcome too, and we will always ask before publishing anything you send.

What we ask couples afterwards

We send one message a few weeks after the wedding, once the photographs are back and the family has gone home. It asks three things. What was better than you expected. What was worse. What would you tell a couple sitting where you were sitting a year ago.

The second question is the useful one and it is the one most planners never ask. The answers have changed how we work more than once: how early we push the seating conversation, how we brief photographers on family entrances, how much detail goes into the weather plan.

If you would rather say something difficult than something flattering, that is genuinely more valuable to us, and it will not be published anywhere.
